Welcome to Niagara-on-the-Lake, a charming town in Ontario’s wine country, a 30-minute drive from Niagara Falls. Known for its rich history, numerous vineyards and picturesque landscapes, this destination will delight nature and wine lovers alike. Here is what to see and do in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

1. Wine tasting in the vineyards

My favourite activity of what to see in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is renowned for its vineyards and award-winning wines. You can head straight to the local vineyards to taste the wines and learn more about the winemaking process. My favourite estates to visit were Peller Estates and Trius. Both also have restaurants, allowing you to taste the wines while you eat. If you see yourself eating on a terrace facing the vineyard while drinking a small glass of white wine (yes, we’re team white wine here), make a reservation at Trius without hesitation.

Price: C$20-$25 for a tasting and C$100-$150 for a restaurant menu (excluding taxes).

There are also organized tours of different vineyards. Generally speaking, this will cost you less and the organization will take care of transporting you from vineyard to vineyard (not bad after 4-5 glasses of wine, eh?).

2. Stroll through the historic downtown

You’ll quickly fall under the spell of downtown Niagara-on-the-Lake. It’s full of small boutiques, artisan workshops and restaurants.

I advise you to park a little outside the town center. As you’d expect, downtown parking is not free.

3. Stroll along Lake Ontario

If you like to go for a walk, I suggest you start here and follow the shoreline of Lake Ontario. You’ll be able to enjoy the peace of Lake Ontario while reaching the Phare-de-la-Pointe historic site.

As you’ve probably gathered by now, Niagara-on-the-Lake is a charming little town. You’ll find it easy to stroll around, visit the many artisan stores and sample the local wine. Half a day should be enough to do the whole thing. I recommend that you visit Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake on the same day.

Have you ever been to Niagara-on-the-Lake?

La Bise,

Gwen
